Irrigation Systems Stood Out in Agricultural Investments in 2020

Of the public budget allocated to the agricultural sector, 3.4 billion liras was designated for irrigation projects.
In the investment priorities, irrigation ranked first, followed by crop production and forestry activities.

The investment program prepared for 2020 includes 289 agricultural projects with a total project value of 187.3 billion liras and a cumulative expenditure of 79.3 billion liras in 2019.

For the activities planned to be implemented this year, a total of 5.2 billion liras was allocated to the agricultural sector.
Of this allocation, 1 billion 99 million liras will be used for new projects, 3 billion 748 million liras for ongoing projects, and 330.8 million liras for feasibility and preparatory works.
Of the total agricultural investment, 3.4 billion liras was allocated specifically for irrigation, to be used in 192 different irrigation projects. Of these investments, 3.3 billion liras will be carried out by the General Directorate of DSİ within the scope of 184 projects.
After irrigation, one of the largest shares in agricultural investments was allocated to crop production, with a budget of 747.2 million liras. This category consists of 48 projects. Of these, 292.7 million liras will be undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, while 250 million liras will be carried out by DSİ.

Following crop production, the forestry sector continues with 24 projects and a total investment of 719.9 million liras. Of this amount, 703.3 million liras will be implemented by the General Directorate of Forestry.

The main irrigation-related activities to be carried out by DSİ within the scope of these projects are as follows:

  • Construction of storage structures
  • Installation of water transmission lines
  • Renewal of existing systems
  • Implementation of flood control measures
  • Execution of irrigation and reclamation projects

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry aims to carry out the following projects within this scope:

  • Support for agricultural settlement activities
  • Research and monitoring of plant diseases
  • Enhancement of agricultural production capacity
  • Implementation of land-use planning projects
